My husband was often upset at me for overspending on the credit card and I was often upset with him because I still felt like a single. We shared everything on paper but still functioned with our own accounts trying to work as a team.
Rob taught us the importance of being unified and putting our accounts together. We also started a cash budget. We told every dollar where it was going to go on our monthly cash budget flow sheet!
Today we are debt free and the cash budget as become a lifestyle. It has given us the freedom to be generous with friends, family and charities. We are even going on a humanitarian trip soon!
Our process took about one to two years. It was hard because we had to own our denial of overspending (often blamed the increase in grocery prices for my high credit card bill), our lack of delaying gratification( I want a new kitchen like yesterday) and our lack of discipline( I don’t have time to do a budget).

Hey folks! My name is Willy. My wife and I began our married life with student debt. We managed to pay that off but within another year found ourselves back in debt. For the next fifteen years or so debt was just a normal state of being. We accumulated between twenty five to thirty thousand dollars of debt in a car loan, credit card, and line of credit. We made some attempts to pay off some debts but the idea of paying off all our consumer debt seemed unattainable.
Then inspiration and hope came in the form of Robert Borgersen. He introduced us to Dave Ramsey. Rob and his wife demonstrated in their own situation following some simple steps it was possible to be debt free. Inspired by their success we attended some workshops given by Rob and followed his advice.
